Lost Movement | A Triple Bill

This spring, join an evening of fast paced, breathtaking contemporary dance. Award winning Italian company, Lost Movement presents a triple bill of new work under the artistic direction of Nicolò Abbattista. This showcase will feature; Teseo, O  and POPoff and transport audiences on a journey through movement, music and incredible physicality.

Teseo
The ship on which the hero Theseus had traveled was a precious artifact that began to be preserved by simply replacing the pieces that gradually deteriorated with particular attention to maintaining the original shape; this practice led to a point where every authentic part of the ship had been replaced, keeping its original appearance intact over time. Thinking about this circumstance, the metaphysical paradox of identity has been reached: the ship, while no longer retaining any original part, can still be considered as the ’Theseus’ Ship’ or is it just a ship resembling the original?

“O” is the representation of a love which struggle to discover the mutual identities on a football field, due to the tacit agreement that football is a heterosexual’s sport only. A taboo that arises from the widespread mentality that imposes a standardized attitude on those who are part of a locker-room. They have to show their heterosexuality, with no alternatives. Those who do not are sidelined, “O” is a meeting, any meeting, between any two people.

“POPoff” describes human most ancient traditions and rituals, showing a tribe that moves at the frantic rhythms of pizzica and taranta, where the people explore on their own the environment and the others. Food plays a central role in the work, being a double metaphor of the ground and the social ritual of the meal. Food marks our days and introduces us to the daily life relationships, as the wheat, ancient symbol of rebirth and fertility, becomes the common thread which weaves the relationships between the characters, nature and at the same time, represents a death trap for the man who goes into. A “matriarchal” story is outlined on these coordinates. By reversing the initial situation, the woman assumes a prevalent position compared to the man, always immersed in a sort of family ritual where “females” re-evoke but also hold against men the events of their private lives.

Lost Movement Company was created in 2011 by Nicolò Abbattista.

The choreographer’s interest consists in people’s daily life and in the context of social relationships in which we are immersed. His current artistic activity is focused on cultural integration and networking.
