SONDER

Sonder is a work about the human condition to always desire connection in order to survive. It is a reflection on the idea of one’s state when isolated and vulnerable. How we fear it the most, how it has made us lose the ability to survive in our own company and surrender into our truest self. This is a monotonous trap of dishonest interaction, habitually surrounding ourselves with people but still feeling hollow and alone. It slowly tears away at what makes us who we are.

GENESIS

Genesis is a reflection of the real world. This work looks at the biblical story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorra in the book of Genesis 19. With everything that is threatening our planet and future, the engulfing fires of Sodom represent the end. The piece resonates hope and dance as an idea for a fresh start, conversation, listening, a way to recognise how we can seek redemption.

About Kennedy & The Company

Picture
My name is Kennedy Junior Muntanga, i was born in Lusaka (Zambia) and moved to the UK at the age of six in 2005. I don't recall the moment i became obsessed with movement and dance because it feels like its always been a part of my DNA since the beginning.

I have very vivid memories of being a child at the centre of dance, celebration and singing as its felt like a force that gave me freedom, surrender and unbinding expression. Since experiencing those sensations it was set in stone that that would be something i pursue in my future, being able to share those feelings and emotions with others. Fast forward to now, March 2019 and here I am preparing to put on my first professional show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

After spending the last 5 years intensely training in dance at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary, Phoenix Dance Theatre and CAPA College, I've had amazing educational and professional experience working for choreographers/companies such as Robert Cohan CBE, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Sharon Watson, Humanhood, Alesandra Seutin and Sir Matthew Bourne. It has been these experiences that have given me the tools I've needed to explore my own artistry and choreography.
