Our focus is to both create and produce high quality opportunities for dance artists, choreographers and companies to present their work to audiences within Scotland and beyond.
Dance Horizons was initiated in 2013 by current Creative Director Oliver James Anwyl with the ambition of championing performance within the field of contemporary dance. Opening doors for dance artists and companies at all stages in their career as a catalyst for presenting their work on the public stage. This also includes a dynamic programme of touring dance work as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Previous Fringe bills have included productions by Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre (UK), Abian Hernandez (Spain), Fiona Houez (France), Paul Scott Bullen (UK) and Jack Stinton Dance Company (UK).
Dance Horizons also runs a series of initiatives including networking and artistic development events. Past events have been run in partnership with leading international organisations such as Dance UK and the Foundation for Community Dance. At its core, the work of Dance Horizons was founded around its flagship event, Innovations Contemporary Dance Platform.
Innovations has held platform editions annually since 2014 presenting eclectic and diverse programmes by artists from the UK and abroad. 2018 saw the platform open its first Edinburgh Fringe Festival Edition, giving artists the opportunity to present their work in the heart of the biggest cultural and arts festival on the planet. To date, the platform has presented over 7 editions of works by more than 14 dance makers and companies at various stages of their professional careers. Innovations is one of the UK's largest, independent, annual dance platforms outside of London.
Day to day the company continues to provide services and support to small-midscale dance companies and independent artists both in Scotland and UK wide through a network of venue partnerships and collaborating companies. Dance Horizons is run by a small, dedicated team with a broad pool of experience and expertise across the dance industry.
